Biographical Data
Aleksandra Slavkovic is an assistant professor of Statistics at
Penn State University. She received her PhD in Statistics from Carnegie
Mellon University in 2004. Dr. Slavkovic conducts research focusing
on developing and applying statistical methods for issues of data
privacy and data confidentiality. One goal of her research is to
limit the release of sensitive information about individuals and
groups that are part of statistical databases, while allowing for
accurate statistical analysis of the data. She have demonstrated
the effects of release of tables of rates on confidentiality in
tabular data. This research lies at the interface of statistics,
probability and computational algebra, with primary applications
to social and health sciences. Dr. Slavkovic's research and application
efforts in this area are currently supported by a National Science
Foundation Grant. She has been also active in the research bridging
the privacy preserving data mining community and statistics.
Beyond statistical approaches to confidentiality and data disclosure,
Dr. Slavkovic is interested in application of statistical methods
to social sciences and human-computer interaction, algebraic statistics,
causal inference, and the characterization and compatibility of
probability distributions for contingency tables.
